MONOCHROMATIC
Gallery
I have been painting monochromatic pieces for the past several years and really enjoy the process. Even though you only use one color (usually a simple earth color such as a burnt sienna or transparent red oxide), they are quite challenging and require patience and attention to subtle value changes. They remind me of the sepia photographs of the American West produced by master photographers such as Edward Curtis in the nineteenth century.
I have been impressed at shows of my work that visitors are drawn to the monochromatic paintings, remarking that they were their favorite pieces.
