Destination Painting
Although my primary focus is painting in my home State, the American West offers an unlimited range of opportunities for the artist, opportunities I do take advantage of. These are my destination paintings. Travelling to more distant locations gives me new opportunities and challenges, and a chance to have a fresh artistic vision and lessons that I can bring home and incorporate into my work in New Mexico.
Canyon de Chelly
My passion for painting beautiful scenes has led me to some of the most inspiring locations. These paintings and studies are from my travels to Canyon de Chelly on the Navajo Nation in northern Arizona.
The Canyon de Chelly National Monument, located in Northeastern Arizona and is within the Navajo Nation. It has been inhabited by Diné peoples who have lived there continuously for nearly 5000 years and still live, farm, and ranch in and around the canyon. The majestic cliffs, seasonal streams and rich farmlands hold a deep cultural and spiritual significance for the Navajo Nation and offer a lifetime of opportunities to paint and photograph this unique and breathtaking site.
